BIOGRAPHY
DAFA GROUP A CLASSICAL MUSIC BAND HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN THE YEAR 2000 A.D. WITH THE MOTIVATION TO PROMOTE A CLASSICAL MUSIC. THE GROUP CONSISTS OF THREE MEMBERS, RABIN LAL SHRESTHAN ON TABALA & PERCUSSIONS, PRABHU RAJ DHAKAL ON CLASSICAL VOCAL & SURESH RAJ BAJRACHARYA ON SAROD. THE GROUP ALSO WITH AN AIM TO FLOURISH THE NEPALI MUSIC ABROAD IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES HAS BEEN ALSO PLAYING CONTINUOUSLY IN DIFFERENT PART OF NEPAL FOR MUSIC LOVERS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR EXPERIENCE.
PRABHU RAJ DHAKAL:
SON OF LATE MR SANGEET PRAVIN NAVRAJ DHAKAL. PRABHU HAS BEEN SINGING CLASSICAL VOCALS SINCE AN EARLY AGE AND IS NEPAL’S FOREMOST CLASSICAL, VOCALIST AND HIS SPELLBINDING PERFORMANCES HAVE BEEN AWARDED WITH NUMEROUS HONORS. HE WORKED AS LECTURER OF CLASSICAL MUSIC AT TRIBHUWAN UNIVERSITY, FINE ARTS CAMPUS AND AT PRESENT WORKING AS CLASSICAL MUSIC TEACHER IN KATHMANDU UNIVERSITY.

- WORKED AS A CLASSICAL VOCALIST IN NATIONAL RADIO STATION FOR EIGHT YEARS.

AS ONE OF NEPAL’S TOP TABLA PLAYERS, RABIN HAS BEEN PLAYING FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS. HE IS ALSO A TABLA LECTURER IN TRIBHUWAN UNIVERSITY, FINE ARTS CAMPUS IN KATHMANDU. HE HAS SHARED HIS KNOWL EDGE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC AND HIS TALENT WITH PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT CORNERS OF THE WORLD.

SURESH RAJ BAJRACHARYA :
SURESH RAJ BAJRACHARYA SON OF KESHAB RAJ BAJRACHARYA WAS BORN IN 1969 AT PATAN. HE SPENT HIS INITIAL PART OF HIS LIFE IN MUSICAL ENVIRONMENT AND BEING VERY MUCH INFLUENCED BY IT, HE HAS STARTED LEARNING SAROD FROM MOHAN PRASAD JOSHI SINCE 1986. SINCE 1988 HE STARTED TO PERFORM VARIOUS SHOWS, NOW HE IS PERFORMING HIS TALENT IN RADIO NEPAL AND IN NEPAL TELEVISION AS A SENIOR CLASS ARTIST AND ALSO SERVING AT ROYAL NEPAL ACADEMY AS MUSICAIN &K.U. AS A TEACHER ABROAD NEPAL HE HAS PERFORMED IN INDIA, HONG KONG, JAPAN, NORWAY AND CHINA. HIS ALBUM GRAND REHEARSAL, VAJRA, KOSELLE, SAAJ, INTRANSIENT NATURE, SOUND OF FESTIVAL HIMALAYA BLUES, CREATION AND PAGODA ARE VERY POPULAR. 1.”Om Namasshibaya”
Who has been involved in this “Dafa” group as a Saroad player Mr. Suresh Bajracharyas’s composition is this; it’s a Minor scale having 5 note in ascending and 7 note in descending, it is called Raga Vimpalasi. The Composition is on 4/4 we say it as Kaharwa, having eight beats, the vocal part in chanting of Lord Shiva, and Bishnu which are freely improvised, Similarly saroad and tabala have also done free improvisation on their own part. We have used a jazz guitarist Mr.Jigme. He has done his best support for this track, Listeners can feel acoustic sound in this composition.
2.” Raga Brindabani Sarang”
It’s a pentatonic melody skipping 3rd and 6th note in ascending and descending too. While on descending the 7th note is half flat. This composition belongs to Guru sangeet praveen Nararaj Dhakal’s Book. Lyric is about remembering love; on ten beats (5/8) it is composed. We wanted to do acoustic part in our recording so we haven’t used any kind of synthesizer sound, even other acoustic instrument too.
3.”Raga Brihaspati”
Mr. Suresh Raj Bajracharya a Saroad player has invented this Raga and has done composition on it, the composition is in middle tempo and faster tempo in teentaal. The source of this raga is thaat Khamaj, 7th note of the composition is flat rest of the notes are Natural.
According to western Music this composition is on ‘F major’ scale. Most important note of this raaga is Ga and Dha (3rd and 6th). In ascending and descending we can use 7 notes in the raga, for singing and playing this raga, midnight is the best.
4.”Raga Kirwani”
Because of ‘Ga’ and ‘Dha’ flat, with Natural Ni this raga doesn’t exist in any one of the ten thaat. According to the prudent of music no anymore and most important notes are in this raga have been selected and also there is no any restriction about the time for the performance of this raga. Seven notes in ascending and seven notes in descending are allowed that’s why Jati of this raga is “Sampurna-Sampurna”. (Having all seven notes.) The composition is on 9 beats according to the western music this raga is in Harmonic minor scale.
5.”Raga Yaman”
It’s very popular melody all over the world, mostly people use to sing and play this melody in evening time. The composition it belongs to Guru Mr.Sangeet Pravin Navaraj Dhakal who became a Royal Court Musician and also member of Nepal Government’s academy. His two books have been published from the Academy; from one of the book we did take the composition. Having 7th notes on ascending and descending the 4th note is half note sharp. it is said as leaden scale.
6.”Solo on Tabala”
The composition is in ten beats. Which is called “Jhaptaal” in western music it is known as 5/8. In this 5/8 composition the tabala player has played the pattern of tabala which are mostly used in 16 beats (Tintaal), this is the different. If the listeners are students or performer of this instrument they can enjoy it more.Vocal and saroad have been used for lahara.
